Week 15: High, Low, Buffalo
4/5/2026-4/11/2026
High
- I ran a 5k (~3.1 miles) on Sunday, the longest run since the turn of the new year. I didn't have a race to train for, therefore it was easy to be less disciplined about following a training plan. A few weeks ago I signed up to run the La Jolla 10k, so it's just the right amount of constraint to keep me accountable. Running is a truly humbling sport that I enjoy, so even though I ran later than I wanted to (temperatures hit mid-70s by the time I started my run, woof), it felt good to go the distance.
- My brother turned 37 on Friday. We're 15 months apart, and I consider him to be my first best friend in life. Much of who I am is shaped from the the experience of growing up with siblings. I mailed him a good ol' fashioned birthday card (hashtag analog) and treated him to dinner with a digital gift card to Gyu-kaku, one of his favorite meals.
- My husband and I have different work schedules, so we don't have much true days off together. He scheduled paid time off for this weekend, and we were able to spend quality time together in our favorite way. Saturday started waking up without urgency or an agenda, and the rest of the day was a chill hang out with my best friend. We grabbed brunch, walked around Highland Park for jazz vinyls to add to our collection, and ended the day at the movies to watch The Drama – highly recommend you watch it in theaters! Watching the plot unfold with a group of people really adds to the experience.
Low
- My body has been going through some unfamiliar changes, one of them being heartburn. Lol I feel like I always struggle to list out lows, and I don't want to give the impression that my life is perfect. But gratitude as a practice really shifts things I guess. Either way, heartburn is annoying at it's worse. Snacking regularly and drinking extra water to stay hydrated helps keep it at bay.
Buffalo
- My dog is an interesting mix of breeds, a Chihuahua and Italian Greyhound mutt. The neurotic traits from each definitely manifest in him, and this past weekend he caught the hiccups that wouldn't go away. As a dog I can't imagine trying to comprehend what's happening when your diaphragm stars spazzing, so it made him even more unsettled. That in turn made me neurotic, which I'm sure didn't help... For an hour I was debating whether to bring him to the vet or not. Eventually he settled, then threw up, and then settled back into normalcy again. I kept him on a bland diet of pumpkin puree just to be on the safe side.
